Our Story
In 2001 Jennifer Shepherd, PT, CLT-LANA created a physical therapy center that catered to women. PT For Women provides general physical therapy care but also specializes in unique health issues such as pelvic dysfunction, cancer rehab, and lymphedema prevention/management. Together with the help of her associates, the practice has continued to grow and expand its services to women, men, and children throughout our region.

Jennifer Is originally from Vermont, and relocated to NC after graduating from PT school. Jennifer has worked in various physical therapy settings to include acute care, outpatient, home health, and skilled nursing. Jennifer began specializing in Women’s Health in 1996, and opened Physical Therapy for Women Inc in 2001. She has been a guest speaker for many Local women’s groups, physician CME (continuing medical education), Breast Cancer Support Groups, 2006 North Carolina Nurses Symposium, 2013 C-3 Symposium, Certified Midwives, UNCW Health Education, NH County Retired Nurses, Local PEO, & Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at UNC Wilmington. Jennifer is currently completing Ano-Rectal Manometry Diagnostic Testing at a Local Gastroenterology Office. When not working Jennifer enjoys hanging with her family, the beach, reading, crafting, paddleboarding, pickleball, and fat-tire biking. Jennifer lives in Wilmington with her husband and 4 children.

Physical TherapistJennifer earned her Masters of Physical Therapy from Duquesne University after completing her Bachelors in Health Sciences with a Minor in Biology from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. She has a background in outpatient orthopedics and has completed her Certified Lymphedema Therapist Certification through the American Academy of Lymphatic Studies. She has also completed certification in Advanced Lymphedema Management through ACOLS. She is dry-needling certified and specializes in Vestibular Rehab, Breast Cancer Rehab, Maitland Techniques, Kinesio Taping, Myofascial Release, and Orthotic management. She is certified in Pregnancy and Postpartum Athleticism Coaching as well. She is licensed in North Carolina and Pennsylvania.
Jennifer likes working with many different patient populations and the variety that the profession of Physical Therapy provides. During her free time, Jen likes to spend time with her husband, son, and dog. She especially enjoys spending time outdoors- biking, hiking, going to the beach, or being on the water. She has a passion for Pilates and enjoys reformer Pilates classes. She looks forward to helping her patients achieve their goals and treating them with a biopsychosocial model that encompasses treating the whole individual, not just one ailment.

Physical TherapistDr. Brittany Reed earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from the Clarke University. Prior to that, she earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology with a BioHealth emphasis from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Upon completing her doctorate, Brittany also completed her advanced certification in lymphatics through the Academy of Lymphatic Studies.
Brittany enjoys helping patients achieve their goals and their quality of life through physical therapy. She has a passion for manual therapy and helping patients through hands-on techniques. Above all else, she enjoys having fun and building lasting relationships with her patients.
In her free time, she likes exploring the outdoors, playing sports, and traveling.

Physical TherapistDr. Kristen Smith earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from Campbell University. Prior to that, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. After completing her doctorate, Kristen completed advanced training in Mulligan Concept Manual Therapy Lower Quadrant, Selective Functional Movement Assessment Level 1, McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT) – Lumbar Spine, FMT Rock Blades, Herman and Wallace Institute Pelvic Floor Certification Level 1 and Level 2A. Kristen had a baby boy in January of 2023 and this really sparked her passion for women’s health.
When she is not working, she likes to hang out with her husband, son Brewer, and dog Cali. She also likes to workout, cook, and try every coffee shop in town!

Physical TherapistDr. Rachel Christiansen earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from Winston-Salem State University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Prior to that, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Exercise Science from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Rachel enjoys helping patients achieve their goals and improve their quality of life through physical therapy. She has a passion for pelvic floor therapy, fitness, and helping patients maximize their quality of life. Above all else, she enjoys having fun and building meaningful interactions with her patients and teammates.
In her free time, she likes spending time with her husband and dog, time with friends and family, exploring the outdoors, trying new restaurants, and fitness.

Physical TherapistDr. Nadya Colosimo earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from the Methodist University. Prior to that, she graduated from Greensboro College as a Certified Athletic Trainer after earning her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. Upon completing her doctorate, she completed further certifications including Dry needling, Rewalk for Spinal cord injuries, LSVT BIG for Parkinson’s and with Herman and Wallace for treating Pelvic Floor Dysfunction for both men, women.
Throughout her time as a PT she has developed a passion treating the pelvic floor specifically, conditions associated with pregnancy, postpartum and labor and delivery prep.
In the early mornings and weekends you can find Nadya running at the beach or walking her three dogs Teddy, Maddox, Doc. She also enjoys traveling and exploring breweries with her husband.

Physical TherapistAnnette earned her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill following her career as a Professional Ballet Dancer. Annette has practiced in most areas of Physical Therapy including hospitals, outpatient, cardiopulmonary rehab, schools, home health & hospice for people across lifespan. She started UNC Hospital’s Women’s Health Physical Therapy program early in her career and is grateful to be practicing in the Pelvic Health Specialty.
Annette has advanced training in Pelvic Health through Herman & Wallace, Geriatrics & enjoys treating people with scoliosis. Her personal and professional mission is to reduce fear through knowledge and connections and finds that the Physical Therapy profession and specifically the Pelvic Health field allows her to fulfill this mission with her patients on a daily basis.
Annette has lived and worked as Physical Therapist in NC throughout her career and enjoys hiking, meditative art, giving back to her community & spending time with her husband and kids.

Candice enjoys treating patients with orthopedic injuries and lymphedema to improve quality of life. She empowers people to use the knowledge and skills learned in physical therapy for lifelong management of their condition.
In her free time, Candice enjoys spending time with her family, playing with her dogs, going to the beach and exploring coastal North Carolina.
